Hand Sanitizer New Focus of Honda and General Motors Partnership

Hand Sanitizer How-To Graphic | Kansas City, MO

More and more people around the world are working to reduce the impact of COVID-19, and Honda is joining forces with General Motors to do the same. These two carmakers recently decided to use an existing Honda and General Motors partnership to produce nearly 12,000 gallons of hand sanitizer to for both their own facilities throughout the United States and for healthcare workers on the frontlines battling this virus.

The companies’ existing Fuel Cell System Manufacturing (FCSM) team is using their own facility in Brownstown, Michigan, to produce the hand sanitizer. They have repurposed equipment usually used for developing fuel-cell fuel stacks for future hydrogen-powered vehicles to do so.

Currently, Honda has donated 3,750 nine-ounce bottles of hand sanitizer to a variety of healthcare facilities throughout Ohio and Michigan. The carmakers plan to donate nearly 75 percent of the hand sanitizer output to various healthcare facilities throughout North America.

“It is inspiring to see how the automotive industry continues to find new and innovative ways to help society during this crisis,” said Cathy McEvilly, senior vice president and general counsel of Honda North America, Inc. “The commitment shown by Honda associates and their counterparts at GM is a source of pride to us and we are happy to provide something to help the brave health care professionals fighting this pandemic every day.”

Honda will provide 1,500 gallons of hand sanitizer to its own manufacturing plants to keep employees safe. Packaging for this product was given to the partnership by Packaging Corporation of America.

Health Care Workers Receive Honda Face Mask Donation

How to Wear a Face Mask | Kansas City, MO

With COVID-19 still affecting people around the world, healthcare workers routinely risking their own lives to help others. To support these essential workers, Honda has decided to focus some of its production capacity on something vital – face shields. The carmaker recently announced that it will make a sizeable donation of face shields to medical staff across the United States.

Honda’s face mask donation will give health care workers across the country 130,000 shields to help prevent the spread of coronavirus. These face shields were developed at Honda Engineering North America in Marysville, Ohio, which used its existing injection molding equipment to create the clear plastic shields.

These face shields were then finished with the frames they need to stay on, thanks to Honda of Canada Manufacturing. The two plants have already created and distributed 70,000 face shields to 305 facilities in 45 states – and they plan on making at least 60,000 more.

“It was a comprehensive effort with our Honda design and manufacturing teams working together to quickly solve this challenge,” said Eric Walli, regional planning leader of Honda North America. “We were looking at materials, doing scientific work to understand if what we put in a face shield would be safe for humans to wear, and all of this was occurring as we sought to rapidly begin and then ramp up production.”

Honda has contributed to the fight against COVID-19 in other ways, too. This includes turning multiple Odyssey minivans into coronavirus-testing transport vans in Detroit.

All of us here at Honda of Tiffany Springs are proud to be a part of the Honda family, and appreciate the company’s efforts to help those who are helping others. To learn more about we’re working to keep you safe, don’t hesitate to reach out.

Formula 1 Technology Influences 2020 Honda Fit e:HEV

2020 Honda Fit | Kansas City, MO

Power and efficiency have come together with the 2020 Honda Fit e:HEV. Honda’s newest hybrid hatchback, which was unveiled during the 2019 Tokyo Motor Show, is offering track-inspired efficiency to consumers.

This electrified Honda combines a two-motor hybrid system with its 1.5-liter engine. It has also taken inspiration from the Honda Formula 1 program, offering three driving modes to choose from – EV Drive, Hybrid Drive, and Engine Drive. These modes allow you to pick the right power and efficiency combination for your driving needs.

Along with these driving modes, the e:HEV also has an electronic control system to help it seamlessly switch between these options.

“During a Formula 1 race weekend, teams have to manage very carefully how much fuel they use to comply with the sport’s regulations,” Yasuaki Asaki, the head of power unit development at Honda, explained, “In a race, we can divide the total fuel allowance over the number of laps, but there are going to be situations where a team might wish to use more fuel in order to get higher performance and in other parts of the race they will want to save fuel for later, while behind a safety car for example.”

By utilizing these practices from the Honda Formula 1 team, Asaki has managed to create a hybrid Fit that can “deliver the best possible power to efficiency ratio for the driver, in any required driving mode.”

While the 2020 Honda Fit e:HEV isn’t currently available in America, you can experience the Fit’s performance and efficiency for yourself at Honda of Tiffany Springs.

Around the world, countries have gone on lockdown due to COVID-19. North America is no exception to this, which is why Honda has decided to lend a helping hand in this time of need. The carmaker recently announced a pledge of $1 million to help its associates, customers, and communities throughout North America.

With this pledge, the brand hopes to help community food banks and meal programs throughout the country, providing these organizations with critical items to support those in need.

Along with the $1 million, Honda has also promised to match up to $1,000 for each individual gift that Honda associates make to local food programs.

“We are focusing our societal response on three vital and immediate human needs,” said Rick Schostek, Executive Vice President of Honda North America. “We are addressing food insecurity at a time when many families are struggling, investigating the potential to use our manufacturing know-how to produce medical equipment to help those battling COVID-19, and deploying our associate ‘virtual volunteers,’ to help people in need.”

Honda is also working to provide personal protective equipment to healthcare providers on the front line. It has donated N-96 masks and is currently partnering with other companies to help produce critical medical equipment. It has even repurposed 3D printers to help create protective face shields.

Unique Models Highlight Honda 60th Anniversary in US

2020 Honda Model Lineup | Kansas City, MO
2020 Honda Model Lineup | Kansas City, MO

It has been 60 years since Honda was first introduced to the American automotive market, which is cause to celebrate – and the Japanese carmaker is doing so in a big way. During this year’s SEMA Show at the Las Vegas Convention Center, Honda presented a lineup of vehicles that highlighted the uniqueness of the brand – and how much it appeals to enthusiasts of all types.

For the Honda 60th anniversary, the SEMA display highlighted the brand’s past and present. The display had no less than ten vehicles that worked to showcase the brand’s “longstanding commitment to the enthusiast community,” whether they were outdoor enthusiasts or those that enjoy performance-oriented vehicles.

At the center of the display was the fully redesigned 2020 Honda CR-V. There were two modified versions of this model available to see. The first was based on the brand-new CR-V Hybrid. Called the “Do” Build by Jsport Performance Accessories, this hybrid was created with the “weekend warrior” in mind. Because of this, it focused on offering the perfect aftermarket accessories for outdoor pursuits, including a 1.5-inch lift kit, all-terrain tires, a roof rack, and a mountain-bike rack.

The other CR-V was based on the gasoline model, and also offered outdoor adventure-ready features. This “Dream” build came with camping comforts like a slide-out refrigerator and a clamshell-style rooftop tent.

Along with these two CR-V models, this SEMA lineup also featured a Ridgeline that was ready for adventure, a Rally Passport with performance-oriented enhancements, and multiple Civic Si models. Honda even presented a 1968 S80 Coupe Outlaw.

2019 Honda Passport Receives NHTSA 5-Star Overall Safety Rating

2019 Honda Passport | Kansas City, MO
2019 Honda Passport | Kansas City, MO

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has recognized the 2019 Honda Passport with its highest possible 5-Star Overall Vehicle Score as part of its New Car Assessment Program (NCAP).*

This makes the Passport the latest 2019 Honda vehicle to earn an NCAP 5-Star Overall Vehicle Score from this organization.** The Honda models are able to earn these high safety ratings thanks to the Honda Advanced Compatibility Engineering™ (ACE™) body structure. This structure utilizes front-frame structures to absorb and deflect the energy created by a frontal collision.

Another aspect of the Passport that helped it achieve this recognition was the Honda Sensing® suite of safety and driver-assistance technologies. Every Passport comes with this safety suite, helping increase awareness of your surroundings when you’re behind the wheel. It comes with Collision Mitigation Braking System™ (CMBS™), a Road Departure Mitigation System (RDM), Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC), and a Lane Keeping Assist System (LKAS).***

The Honda Sensing® technologies also come standard on the 2019 Accord, Insight, Pilot, Civic, and Clarity lineup.**** Currently, 85 percent of all new Honda vehicles sold in 2019 have had this technology, and the brand has sold over 2.1 million vehicles equipped with it since it was first introduced in 2015.

Stop by Honda of Tiffany Springs to see the Passport in person.

*Government 5-Star Safety Ratings are part of the U.S. Department of Transportation’s New Car Assessment Program (www.safercar.gov). Model tested with standard side airbags (SAB).

**2019 Civic Type R, Clarity series and CR-V not yet tested

***CMBS™ cannot detect all objects ahead and may not detect a given object; accuracy will vary based on weather, speed, and other factors. System operation affected by extreme interior heat. System designed to mitigate crash forces. Driver remains responsible for safely operating vehicle and avoiding collisions.

Road Departure Mitigation only alerts drivers when lane drift is detected without a turn signal in use and can apply mild steering torque to assist driver in maintaining proper lane position and/or brake pressure to slow the vehicle’s departure from a detected lane. RDM may not detect all lane markings or lane departures; accuracy will vary based on weather, speed, road conditions, and other factors. System operation affected by extreme interior heat. Driver remains responsible for safely operating vehicle and avoiding collisions.

ACC cannot detect all objects ahead and may not detect a given object; accuracy will vary based on weather, speed, and other factors. ACC should not be used in heavy traffic, poor weather, or on winding roads. ACC only includes a limited braking function. Driver remains responsible for slowing or stopping the vehicle to avoid a collision.

LKAS only assists driver in maintaining proper lane position when lane markings are identified without a turn signal in use and can only apply mild steering torque to assist. LKAS may not detect all lane markings; accuracy will vary based on weather, speed, road conditions, and other factors. System operation affected by extreme interior heat. Driver remains responsible for safely operating vehicle and avoiding collisions.

2019 Honda HR-V | Kansas City, MO

Automotive shows consist of big brands introducing brand-new models. However, Honda took a different approach at the New York International Auto Show this year. Rather than highlighting new vehicles — like the 2019 Passport — the Japanese carmaker revealed a refreshed 2019 HR-V, which recently passed a safety crash test with IIHS.

In this display, the HR-V highlighted a vehicle’s experience in a crash — and what it looks like afterward. It showed the compact crossover’s structural strength, airbag deployment, and the progression of its safety technologies.

The 2019 Honda HR-V received recognition for safety when IIHS named the vehicle a 2019 Top Safety Pick with the Honda Sensing® technology and certain headlights. When put through the paces of the IIHS crash tests, the HR-V earned the highest available rating of “Good” in all six tests. It also achieved a “Superior” rating for front crash prevention with the available Honda Sensing®.

Honda has seven models in its 2019 model year lineup that have earned Top Safety Pick or Top Safety Pick+ ratings from the IIHS. This includes the Insight, Accord, HR-V, CR-V, Pilot, Odyssey, and Ridgeline.

Test-drive any of these safe vehicle at Honda of Tiffany Springs, and learn more about the safety and technology features that come in these models.
